The CRM-CNRS Hosts the Mathematics Directorate of CNRS
The mission of the CRM-CNRS, an international research laboratory in mathematics resulting from a partnership between the CNRS in France and the Centre de recherches mathématiques in Quebec, is simple yet ambitious: to develop relationships between France and Quebec in all areas of mathematics. On a daily basis, mathematicians from France based in the laboratory in Montreal invent and discover new mathematics with their colleagues from Quebec.
The life of the laboratory also involves regularly meeting the women and men who enable these discoveries and inventions by working to animate and coordinate mathematics. Thus, the CRM-CNRS had the honor of receiving earlier this week Professor Christophe BESSE, director of the Institut national des sciences mathématiques et de leurs interactions, and his deputy scientific director in charge of Europe and international affairs, Professor Frédéric HÉRAU, accompanied by Andréa DESSEN, director of the CNRS office in Canada, and Suzie BRONNER, her cooperation officer.
Conferences at Collège Stanislas
For the second consecutive year, members of the CRM-CNRS will offer conferences to middle and high school students at Collège Stanislas, a French institution abroad in the network of Agence pour l’enseignement français à l’étranger.

Isabelle Chalendar co-recipient of the G. de B. Robinson Prize 2025
The Canadian Mathematical Society has announced that Isabelle Chalendar is the recipient of the 2025 edition of the G. de B. Robinson Prize along with Jonathan R. Partington (University of Leeds) for their joint paper, “Phase Retrieval on Circles and Lines,” published in the Canadian Mathematical Bulletin (67:4, 2024, pp 927-935).
The G. de B. Robinson Prize was established to reward the publication of excellent papers in the Canadian Journal of Mathematics (CJM) and the Canadian Mathematical Bulletin (CMB) and to encourage the submission of the highest quality papers to these journals. It is named in honor of Gilbert de Beauregard Robinson, the third president in the history of the CMS. Along with H.S.M. Coxeter, he founded the Canadian Journal of Mathematics (CJM), of which he was editor-in-chief for 30 years.
Thematic Program in Number Theory
With the support of the Fonds de la recherche du Québec and the CNRS, the CRM-CNRS supports the thematic program Universal Statistics in Number Theory of the Centre de recherche mathématique by funding the participation of mathematicians working in France.
The Centre de recherche mathématique benefits from a grant from the Fonds de recherche du Québec.

Meeting with the Vice-Rector of Université du Québec à Trois Rivières
On Monday, September 22, 2025, the director of CRM-CNRS met with the Vice-Rector for Research and Development of the Université du Québec à Trois Rivières, Sébastien Charles.
The meeting was an opportunity to express the importance of the investment from CNRS and the Fonds de recherche du Québec for Franco-Quebec cooperation in mathematics.
The main tools of this cooperation were presented:
- the hosting at CRM-CNRS of scientists working in France “assigned on delegation” thanks to joint funding from CNRS and the employer of the assigned person;
- the support program for the international laboratory of the Fonds de recherche du Québec in four pillars:
- hosting of mathematicians coming from France,
- long-term research stays in France for CRM members,
- participation in scientific events in France by CRM members,
- research internships for students.
The website presenting all cooperation opportunities in mathematics between France and Canada was introduced.
General Assembly of CRM-CNRS
The CRM-CNRS will hold the general assembly of its scientific staff on September 8, 2024, at 11 AM in room 5374-1.
The CRM-CNRS welcomes six scientists from France
Starting from September 1st, 2025, the IRL CRM-CNRS will host six scientists for long-term stays.
Nicolas CRAMPÉ
Researcher, CNRS
01/09/2025 – 31/12/2025
After studying at the École supérieure de physique et de chimie industrielles de la Ville de Paris (ESPCI Paris), Nicolas Crampé completed a PhD at the Annecy Laboratory of Theoretical Physics (LAPTh) at the University of Savoie. Recruited by CNRS in 2009, he worked at the University of Montpellier and, since 2018, at the University of Tours.
Specializing in exactly solvable systems and representation theory, Nicolas Crampé uses algebraic tools to explore the underlying symmetries of various physical problems. His research focuses on the calculation of entanglement entropies in quantum mechanics, the evaluation of average values in out-of-equilibrium statistical models, and the spectral analysis of Hamiltonians. More recently, he has also been interested in certain special functions and their role in the study of algebraic representations, association schemes, and integrable quantum models.
Departure of Olivier Bousquet
Arrived on September 1st, 2024, Nicolas Bousquet left the CRM-CNRS (IRL3457) on August 31, 2025.
He was able to work with his collaborators from the Laboratory of Algebra, Combinatorics, and Mathematical Computer Science (Lacim), notably Adrian Vetta from McGill University and his students, as well as Ndiame Ndiaye (a PhD student at McGill University). He also took advantage of the time zone proximity to develop his work with Daniel Cranston (Virginia Commonwealth University) and Naomi Nishimura (University of Waterloo) and her students.
Departure of Ewen Gallic
Arrived on September 1st, 2024, Ewen Gallic left the CRM-CNRS (IRL3457) on August 31, 2025.
He worked with Arthur Charpentier, a professor at the Université du Québec à Montréal.
During his stay, he completed a number of works:
