Four scientific presentations will be given by:
- Nicolas Crampé;
- Claire Guerrier;
- Ewen Gallic;
- Thierry Daudé.
Program
9:30 AM: Nicolas Crampé
10:15 AM: Claire Guerrier
Following the maximum in the heat equation: signal propagation and myelin plasticity.
How do the characteristics of the myelin sheath influence the transmission of action potentials in myelinated axons, and vice versa? To answer this question, we develop a model of signal transmission in a myelinated axon, where myelinated compartments alternate with the nodes of Ranvier. By combining a computational approach with mathematical analysis, we seek an analytical solution corresponding to the propagation of the signal in a myelin compartment, and we study the signal transmission time as a function of different neuronal morphologies.
Colloquium Women and Mathematics in Interaction
The CRM-CNRS supported and participated in the scientific meeting “Women and Mathematics in Interaction” which took place on June 12, 2025, at the André-Aisenstadt Pavilion of the University of Montreal.
Colloquium Francophone Mathematical Space 2025
The CRM-CNRS supports the Francophone Mathematical Space 2025 colloquium by funding the participation of one male and one female mathematician working in France, co-responsible for the working groups:
- Professional Development and Collaborative Work;
- Teaching Mathematics at Post-Secondary, Higher Education, and Vocational Tracks.
This colloquium will take place from May 26 to 30, 2025, at the Université du Québec à Montréal.
The scientific meetings of the Francophone Mathematical Space have been held every three years since 2000. They are recognized as regional conferences of the International Commission on Mathematical Instruction (ICMI). They are aimed at various stakeholders concerned with issues related to the teaching of mathematics.
French Scientific Network Breakfast in Montreal
On Tuesday, May 6, 2025, the French Consulate General in Quebec organized a breakfast for the network of French scientists in Montreal at the École de technologie supérieure de Montréal.
Several colleagues from CRM-CNRS enjoyed this moment to meet with colleagues from all disciplines
The 25th Anniversary of the Mathematical Modeling Center in Santiago, Chile
On April 15, 2025, the international Mathematical Modeling Center in Santiago, Chile, will celebrate its anniversary in the presence of Chilean state authorities, including the President of the Republic of Chile, Gabriel Boric, representatives from the academic, scientific, and private sectors, as well as a delegation from the CNRS and the French ambassador to Chile, Cyrille Rogeau.
The Mathematical Modeling Center is the first mixed unit of the CNRS established outside of France.
Meeting with the future Vice-Rector of the University of Montreal
On Tusday, April 8, 2025, the director of CRM-CNRS met with the future Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation of the University of Montreal, Vincent Poitout.
The meeting was an opportunity to thank the University of Montreal for hosting CRM-CNRS in its facilities and to express the importance of the investment from CNRS and the Fonds de recherche du Québec for Franco-Quebec cooperation in mathematics.
The main tools of this cooperation were presented:
- the hosting at CRM-CNRS of scientists working in France “assigned on delegation” thanks to joint funding from CNRS and the employer of the assigned person;
- the support program for the international laboratory of the Fonds de recherche du Québec in four pillars:
- hosting of mathematicians coming from France,
- long-term research stays in France for CRM members,
- participation in scientific events in France by CRM members,
- research internships for students.
The website presenting all cooperation opportunities in mathematics between France and Canada was introduced.
Meeting with the Director of the CNRS Office in Canada
On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, the director of CRM-CNRS met with the new director of the CNRS office in Canada, Andréa Dessen.
This meeting was an opportunity to discuss the positioning of CNRS in Canada, mathematics in Canada, the place of mathematics at CNRS, and the important role played by the National Institute of Mathematical Sciences and their Interactions in the French mathematical community.
Departure of Antoine Zurek
Arrived on September 1st, 2024, Antoine Zurek left the CRM-CNRS (IRL3457) on February 28, 2025.
He was able to participate in the thematic program Computational Dynamics: Analysis, Topology, and Data organized by the Centre de recherches mathématiques from September 5 to November 15, 2024.
This participation and subsequent integration into the community of computer-assisted proof methods allowed him to begin collaborations, notably with Matthieu Cadiot, then a doctoral student at McGill University, as well as with mathematicians working in France with whom he will be able to continue his work in this field.
Departure of Sophie Dabo-Niang
Arriving on September 1st, 2024, Sophie Dabo-Niang left the CRM-CNRS (IRL3457) on February 28, 2025.
She was able to initiate collaborations with:
- Bouchra Nasri, associate professor at Université de Montréal;
- Claire Guerrier, research officer at CNRS, member of CRM-CNRS.
She worked with Mamadou Yauck, assistant professor at Université du Québec à Montréal on issues of mathematics dissemination within the scientific communities of Quebec, France, and Africa.
Finally, she co-organized the summer school on quantitative molecular and cellular biology in collaboration, which took place from June 16 to 27, 2025, at Université du Manitoba.
